Supported by the Australian
Government AusAID

This $2m Fund was announced in August 2008 by the Former Foreign Minister Stephen Smith, with the aim to advance the understanding of the R2P doctrine and support states to build capacity in the region to prevent genocide and mass atrocities. Successful applicants were announced in September 2009.

Our Research in Focus pamphlet (May 2011) foregrounds what we term the Fund Projects. All 14 investigative teams have contributed to the publication: we are delighted to see how these teams have reached significant research milestones ahead of the completion of their programs. Although most Fund Projects aim to advance R2P in the Asia Pacific, the research frameworks and findings of the Australian R2P Fund are not limited to the Asia Pacific region. Many projects look at conceptual issues and concerns that are potentially universal in their scope.
